Page disappeared

I started a new file, Allegri’s Miserere, with “create new”. Gave it a title, key signature and used 4/4 and 300 empty bars. All good so far. The pages appeared. I double clicked the 4/4 time signature and typed X for an open time signature. As soon as I pressed enter, the page went black. How can I get my pages back? What happened?
Thanks.

I tried your file, and the screen remains black for me too.
First I’d like to mention that there’s no such thing as adding 300 bars in open meter, because Dorico has no means to decide how much ‘time’ they’d represent. The 300 empty 4/4 bars will have 1200 crotchets/quarter notes of implicit rests in them, but when you apply open meter, apparently this emptyness is hard to redistribute anywhere, and Dorico bails out. The piano part does display correctly, but the Full Score remains invisible.
After looking around in your file a bit and then closing it, Dorico crashed (or hung, with a spinning beachball). I had to force-quit.
So, I guess your entering a X time signature actually damaged the file somehow. This shouldn’t happen.

The problem is that you’ve now created a monumentally long single bar with just a single bar rest in it, and Dorico is trying to calculate the right amount of horizontal space for a bar rest that’s 1200 quarter notes (crotchets) long. Dorico can’t fit this system into the width of a Letter page at the staff size you’ve chosen, so it’s unable to draw anything at all. If you switch to galley view, you’ll see that in fact the layout is still there and draws OK.

I would suggest deleting the flow and starting again, and this time, don’t create a monumentally long single bar.
