Page Layout issues

I’m working on a project that includes several short pieces. Each piece is in a different Flow and has a title and composer. I’ve setup the Default Page layouts similar to the original with the Title and Composer in the Flow header. My issue is that when a piece starts a new page, I need more space between its title and the top of the page.

  1. I’ve tried making the Music Frame shorter on that page, but the Flow Titles of the other pieces on the page, get compressed into the music.
  2. I’ve tried creating a new page layout, with the shorter Music Frame, but when I select MA in the corner, the music is fine, but there’s no Flow Titles.
  3. I’ve tried grabbing the handle for the first system and Opt dragging it down, the music moves, but the Flow Titles stay where they were and now are too far away from the music.

How can I move the top system down and still keep the Flow Titles the same distance from the music?

I think many of us need to see a picture of this, or better yet to see the Dorico file enough to show the problem.

These are in order 1) Original 2) Shorten music frame, 3) Opt Drag top system, 4) New frame with MA selected.

I’m trying to duplicate a Finale project that I’m working on, so the music in this file is incomplete. Here’s the file.

have you tried adding a Flow header change? add some padding either to the top or bottom of the existing header.

Here is what I did:

I made a false “VeryVery First Page” just for the start of your piece.
Then I made the actual First Page look like a Default with a larger gap between the running header and the music frame.

The reason I did this is that Layout Options have a Flow property that says whenever a flow starts at the top of the page, one can have it use the (real) First Page.

So I put a one-page Template change on the very first page and let that option control the rest of the manuscript.

I was able to solve the problem by making the text Frame in the Flow Header taller and justifying the text to the bottom of the frame. That way I can adjust the distance from the top. I was able to adjust the template for the first page as well.
Now onto question Number 2. This fixed one 2 pages.
The issues that I pointed out still are a problem when trying to create space between flows for heading. As mentioned before, when I deleted the Music frame from the page and then added a new music frame, then assigned it to MA, the music is there, but there are no Flow headers. These pages are just a few of several thousand I have to set. I’m trying to create a template for this work. There are over 6000 pages already in print that I have to duplicate the look. There are 5 different Heading and SubHeadings that need to be inserted throughout between Flows and I’m trying to learn what I have to do to be able to manage this project. The headings in Finale were problematic because, when the author added a heading, everything got screwed up, titles on wrong pages and such. I’m hoping that I won’t have to do that kind of editing with Dorico.

Can I create multiple Flow Heading that are formatted with the Headings or Subheading in them, thus creating the space. How do I assign a different Flow Heading, to a specific Flow?

using a combination of Flow info and Project info in the token fields you should be able to accomplish what you are trying to do -

I don’t think this is possible. You can only have a single type of Flow Header on each Page. So if you have multiple flows on a single page they will all have to have the same Flow Header.
