Pair MIDI track with any group track or return channel (for inspector)

When using MIDI tracks, Cubase allows you to “pair” the track with a return channel associated with the instrument to which the MIDI track is routed. This is commonly used with multi-timbral VSTs, so that the inspector will show the appropriate channel strip when the MIDI track is selected.

For more complex projects/templates, it is sometimes desirable to pair a MIDI track with a different group track, but we’re currently limited to only the channels associated with the MIDI tracks’ destination.

For example, I have MIDI track that is routed to a multi-timbral plugin. The plugin returns multiple different mic positions on different outputs. I then route these different mic positions to a group channel. Currently, my only option is to pair the MIDI track with just one of the mic positions (output channels from the MIDI tracks’ destination). I would instead like to pair the MIDI trackwith the group track that all of the instrument’s mic-positions are routed to. So, when I select the MIDI track, the inspector would show the fader, inserts, sends, etc. for the mic summed group track.

And we nee to be able to select the channel in the inspector so as to control the fader, inserts, mute, solo etc. with our controller surface using the ‘Selected Channel’ functionality.

Agreed, I have another thread about that here.
