Panning, but don't hear the separation

Hi. I’ve got about 16 tracks in a project, and panning aggressively for separation, but don’t hear the separations. I have each instrument track routed to appropriate group effect tracks, and those are routed to group stem tracks before flowing to the Full Mix track.

I notice the panner doesn’t appear in the group tracks. Not sure how to activate the panner on the group tracks, but would any group track panning defeat the instrument track panning altogether? Looking for guidance or best practice in this situation from experienced users who use group tracks. Thanks kindly.

The group tracks or any buss (routed to) must be stereo groups.

Thank you, that makes good sense. So now I have to figure out how to make them stereo. I’ll try first in the project drop-down and see if there’s an option.

When you creat a group you have the mono / stereo option.
If your output routing is to any mono buss you clearly won’t get a panning option.

Individual channels audio, instrument, etc stereo or mono …to group channel (must be stereo) to main output buss (stereo)
Any FX channels also keep stereo.
This will keep things easy for now.

Sometimes FX can have a “narrowing” effect.

It should, don’t know why it isn’t.

I beg to differ:

Tracks already created you can change by clicking on the mono / Stereo symbol.
From new add group then make it a stereo track.

Audio Track routed to a mono Group track notice no panning on the audio track that is routed to the group. The mono Group in your screenshot has a panner because it is routed to the stereo output buss

Okey dokey
:+1:

Yes the panner is greyed out and don’t see any option or r.clk to turn it on

In this screen shot I have 3 audio tracks (mono) 1 mono group and one stereo group. The first audio out and both groups are going to the main stereo buss ..all have panning, The second audio track is going to the mono group hence no panning and the third is going to the stereo group so yes we have panning. I have arrowed the mono group to show where to click to change this to a stereo group. …

Yes I see. On my group tracks the stereo panner is greyed out and shows turned off. Cant figure out how to turn it on or activate it so it’s a stereo group track

ChatPT is telling me once group track is created in mono it cannot be changed to stereo; and is showing how to create new stereo trk and copy settings from old mono trk. Thanks for the helpfulness

Right click on the mono wave form and select … convert to stereo

Well, always mistrust your AI-sources

As shown in my screenshot

Make sure that this group is routed to a stereo bus. If this is the main output, it should be both the left and right (not just one or the other.
Look in the routing tab .. output in the inspector with the problem group selected.

OMG it worked! Thank you!

OMG - it worked! Thank you!

I arrowed this in the screenshot a while back..
