Panning "issue"

I have a situation, where I believe the version of program does not matter (I am using 7.07) in regard to panning.

There are two mono tracks of similar material eg a stereo guitar, one is panned full left and the other almost full right with both routed to a Group Track however when I mute one or other of the audio tracks, I see that they are sent equally to both sides of the group.

Would anyone be able to explain what is happening here?

I have just tested it out and the above happens if you have created a mono group channel!

If the group channel is stereo it all works perfectly, so I think that is your problem.

I am not clever enough to explain what is happening but basically a stereo group channel will give you want you want, a mono group channel will not!!
