Paragraph styles disappear from the menu after importing library from another project

Hi,

Apologise if it’s something I’m missing from Dorico’s expected way of working, but i can’t understand why I am losing some custom paragraph styles I have created in a project, when importing a library from another project.
I want to apply the engraving / chord symbols / fonts etc etc from the other project, but why am I losing a simple paragraph style I have created and I still need inside my current project ?

Many thanks

Hi @mikeheels you need to click on the little star icon in the lower left part of the editor, when creating a new setting/element. Only so the new created element will be present in all projects.

You can go in your “previous” project (where you created it: it will be present there) and activate the star icon. Then open the “current” project and it will be there.

You can also use the Library manager (under Manu Library) to import settings/elements between projects (but anyway I suggest to click the star, so you don’t need to import every time)

Hi, yes I know about the little star, and I did click it.
However my paragraph style gets lost after I import the library from the other project

So just to recap:

This is what I see in my paragraph styles menu (so correctly displaying the one I created and saved as default)

And this is after importing a library from another project:

As you can see the paragraph style I created is not there anymore…

As an update…even if I start a brand new project, I can find my paragraph style there…and it disappears if I import a library from another one.

I can recreate it and it’s not a big deal, but. I would like to know if this is the expected behaviour, as I thought it wasn’t the case

mmmhh…strange
Is the imported library being originated by someone else (who has a different User Library), or by yourself ?

One thing that I noticed is that the custom Paragraph Styles do not appear in the Library of a projects if you never used one of them in the project. (but should be remain present in your User Library)

Anyway, can you check this?:
does your custom Paragraph Style appear, if you choose Compare to: User Library, in the user Library column?

I wonder whether perhaps your “new” paragraph style is really one of the built-in ones that you’ve renamed, and consequently when you import a library file, your renamed style is getting overwritten by an incoming style?

Unfortunately, without seeing the project file(s) and/or the library file you’re importing, it won’t be possible to say what’s really happening.

Thanks!

1 - no the imported paragraph style was made by me

2 - yes they do appear like in your screenshot:

THANKS!

Thanks Daniel,

The PS is a smaller version of the default text. I have duplicated the default text, made it smaller and underlined, and saved it with my custom name. I hope that was the correct way of doing it.

Let me know if I can send you the files and which files you would need to check.

If you don’t want to post the project(s) and library files here, you can send them to me via a private message here on the forum, or by email. Unfortunately I can’t offer any further assistance without them.
