How do I place parentheses around the entire note, not just the note head?
I believe you need to use vertical lines for this, then turn of their Avoid Collision property (that is, turn it ON and make sure the checkbox is unchecked), then place them manually in Engrave mode.
Perhaps you can get away with a custom text object or a custom playing technique but then collision avoidance will be harder to manage.
