Would it be possible to introduce something like “Paste Special > Paste without lyrics”? I copy a lot of vocal music into orchestral staves from projects where the vocal/piano reductions are created first, and this feature would be really handy.
I’m not sure about this. Obviously I understand the use case very well, but I’m not sure whether it would make sense to add a dedicated command for this case. You might in the meantime consider recording a macro for the following steps:
Edit > Filter > Deselect Only
Edit > Filter > Lyrics > All Lyrics
Edit > Filter > Select Only
You could then make a selection to copy, trigger this macro (e.g. via the jump bar), which would deselect all the lyrics, then you could perform the copy and pase operation.
Thanks Daniel, I’ll look into it.
I have found it faster to copy with lyrics first and then immediately filter for lyrics and delete them, but that’s just my personal workflow and may not be optimal for others.
I do it this way, too, and because Dorico allows using two-step key commands I have a set of filter commands that make this kind of work efficient (filter lyrics is CMD-F, Y; filter notes is CMD-F, N; filter dynamics is CMD-F, D; etc.)
If you need to do this a LOT, it might be worth looking into something like Touchportal.
Same for me. Filtering feels more logical that way.
Of course it’s also possible to select just notes with some careful mouse-wrangling, but that can add time/frustration.
Yes there are a few workarounds but I only hoped it would be possible to include in the menu. After all there is Paste Special > Paste Articulations.
However the Wish List is probably in its 13th volume by now
I created several key shortcuts for Filter operations which let me select notes, lyrics, and other items quickly and cleanly, making copy/paste much easier.
For me, it’s control (Mac) +
D: dynamics
L: lyrics
N: notes
Q: chord symbols
T: tempo markings
V: playing techniques (I used “P” for paragraph styles)
X: text
15th volume, actually, and available as an audiobook narrated by Anthony Hughes.
