Pattern Editor - changing step lane position

Is there a way how to change position/order of step lines?

Like: I want my hi-hat step line to be only after other 3 cymbal step lines, as now it sits before them - how to move it after those, so that order sequence would be hihat, cmb1, cmb2, cmb3 instead of the actual cmb1, cmb2, cmb3, hihat???

I can’t find anyway to change the Lane order.

However you can change the notes triggered by each lane.

The trick with the current first version of the Pattern Editor is to prepare the lanes before starting to fill them with content.

Which is fairly tedious to do with the expanding octave sections. And then when you do get it setup how you prefer there’s no way to save that as a preset. So if you want to use those same Lanes in another context you need to construct it again.

In comparison it’s fairly well integrated with the Drum Track by pre-populating the Lanes - but even then you might want to move their positions to put, for example, the snares together.

yes indeed - very tedious

The only way I’ve figured out so far, is to import the track with the desired Pattern Editor configuration via the Cubase menu:

File > Import > Tracks from Project

(Side note: This method seems to be more feature complete than using track presets in several other ways, too.)

So I think the best workflow (with this first generation of the Pattern Editor) may be to make the patterns live on MIDI Tracks, configure them carefully, save that in a project and then import those tracks into the same (or different) projects.

And only then to connect them to the Rack or to Instrument tracks and populate the patterns.

All quite tedious (also the absence of “undo”) but maybe better than nothing?

I was exploring using it for melodic/harmonic content where the Lanes are grouped based on musical relationships and not just pitch order. But eventually I gave up because setting it up was so clunky.

What I also missing - BUT OK, I KNOW THIS IS THE 1ST VERSION CONTAINING PATTERN EDITOR, I got that  - is the ability setting different notes length in one line, just like in FLStudio, cos that way I could literally replace synths MIDI for the pattern editor (once again: the same as I do for yrs in FLStudio), as now you can only have the same notes length for the specific line.

Fortunately, in FLStudio I can export as MIDI file specific pattern instrument (CTRL+SHIFT+M), so for now - as for the synths, not drums - I just import those “MIDI patterns from FLSTudio” for the specific synth recreating it this way inside the C14, as I am in the process of “getting rid” of the FLStudio as VSTi. Tho for now I would still using it for extremelly easy synths patterns creating, bah! ;-(

Yes. Currently you can have the same Note on multiple Lanes. So you could have an 1/8 note Lane & a 1/4 note Lane. That’s actually what I was setting up when the Lanes got too unwieldy to use.

I’m sure this will evolve in future releases.
