Why do the percussion instruments on single line staves default to X noteheads?
This would be appropriate in a kit, but not in orchestral percussion.
Which percussion instruments? I would expect that depends on the instrument and/or the playing technique selected - different percussion instruments have different noteheads available by default.
Crash Cymbal. I have literally NEVER seen those written with an X notehead in a published orchestral part.
