Using a snare drum as an example …

Can I put 2 snare drums i.e., Sn1 & Sn2, on one line (or in this case space, see attached image) and assign a different notehead to each: Snare 1 = “Natural” and Snare 2 = “Cross Stick.”

Then …

Based on the notehead type, instruct Dorico to play back according the Playing Technique assigned to that notehead.

If that’s possible, a step-by-step explanation would be greatly appreciated!

If there is another way to accomplish this, please advise.

You don’t have to. There are already Playing Techniques setup for cross-stick.
You press alt/opt + up or down arrow when inputting notes. Or alt/opt + shift + up or down arrows to change Playing Technique for a note.

When you select Edit Percussion Kit, you can select the snare drum, click Edit Percussion Playing Techniques, to see/add/edit them
