Is it possible to have names of each instrument of a percussion kit shown in a box above the note where it is played in the same way that when a player changes the insturment (bass clarinet to clarinet i.e.) it shows above? ps.: all that in a 5 line staff and not grid
Just like the picture, lets say Percussion Kit with Bongo and Tam Tam plays Tam Tam on the first measure and Bongo on measure 4. I would like to have names automatically shown above each. Couldn’t find the answere here in the forum
Hi @fersilva_leonardo, there is a nice function for this (not automatically, though) : Percussion Legend, that you can reach by right clicking on a note in a percussion kit, and choosing Percussion > Legend for sounding Instruments.
The percussion legends will be displayed only if the kit is shown as 5-line Staff, otherwise you see only a signpost.
You can then personalise the Paragraph Style for the Percussion Legend, and save as default clicking on the star icon, if desired.
You can copy all your Percussion Legends between score and part, selecting one, using the shortcut for Select more (Shift+Command(Control)+A) copying and pasting in the part.:
@Christian_R , further into the question, now concerning mallets, is there an easier/faster/“automatic” way of indicating them along side the instrument names which doesn’t involve creating playing techniques?
After your explanation I imagined for example changing the name of the instruments and creating i.e. Tam Tam soft mallet and editing the name for Tam Tam + SmuFL mallet symbol. Same thing if I want Tam Tam hard mallet. Than I would have, lets say, 2 different tam tam on the same 5 staff line and I would just select which one I want to enter (soft or hard mallet) and I would automatically get the name + mallet.
Is that too much of a workaround? Any cons that I am missing?
I suspect percussionists would prefer a text indication of mallet changes over different mallet strikes on different lines of a five-line staff unless the situation is very complex where a player has a different mallet in each hand for quick alternation between mallet hardness.
