I am losing my mind a little bit with Dorico working on a project. I scoured the forums and figure out that to make a snare and bass drum on the same part I need to use a kit. So I made one, I selected five line staff, added my snare and bass and it makes a staff with only two lines. There is no indication of how I make a 5-lined staff.
In general, am I doing something wrong? I literally cannot figure out how to do a single thing in this program without pulling my hair out. I don’t mind reading manuals and a steep learning curve but the online help manual literally doesn’t tell you anything about a single thing. It provides no pictures with where to find things and half the time doesn’t tell you how to do something and instead just tells you that something exists. Where am I supposed to be going to learn how to use the program besides continually posting in the forums. I’m starting to lose my mind haha.
If you post a Dorico file of your project containing just a couple of measures containing the snare and bass drum, someone could probably tell you how to fix it.
Dorico is a powerful and ultimately often enjoyable program. While you are learning, don’t be afraid to experiment with test files or copies of your project, and if you have a question about a situation or passage in the manuals, be all means ask here.
Make sure you’re reading the appropriate manual. Googling for Dorico manual unfortunately often brings you to old versions (v1 or v2 that are six or seven years old!) Using v5 user guide will bring you way more interesting information
that must be it. I swear I had five problems in a row and would search for what to do and get to the manual and it would say something like “dynamics make things loud and soft. In Dorico you can add dynamics!”. I recently had to switch from using my Macbook to my PC gaming laptop because my macbook is on its last legs and I truly did not realize how much the mac OS was carrying complicated programs with its search function in the help tab. I honestly thought that was something the programs coded in and not a feature of the operating system.
