Percussion map and Midi input

I’m using a VDL Percussion map created for a snare drum line where left hand hits are mapped to F#5 and right hand hits are mapped to G#5.

However when I click those notes on my Korg NanoKey2 I do not get the appropriate sounds or mapping. Is there an extra step I need to do in the stave setup in order to get this mapped over? This issue seems consistent on all marching drums from the template I am trying to learn how to use.

Welcome to the forum! Check the settings on the Note Input and Editing page of Preferences. You can choose in there whether input should follow the percussion map (i.e. the actual MIDI notes that produce those sounds in the patch you’re using) or the staff position (i.e. where in the nominal five-line staff the notes will actually appear).

Got it. Thank you.

Side question, when I hit the midi keys, it sounds like it is triggering something like a flute note but when I do playback, it is triggering the appropriate sounds for the snare drum note head. Is this another small setting somewhere?

When you select something on one staff, your midi keyboard will sound like that instrument — and continue to do so after you deselect, until you select something on a different staff.
