Percussion names control

I am still trying to master percussion issues and there is something that is confusing for me.

I want to have different Cymbals on Percussion 3.

I tried adding separate players for each symbol in galley view. So in this pic I would move the note in m. 12 down to crash cymbal and then delete what is now at m.12 in the perc 3 staff. so in the second pic the score no longer says percussion 3, but rather the starting crash cymbal. So how do I make the percussion 3 part always say percussion 3 and then in the regular view have it specify each instrument automatically.

OR

Should I take a different approach and just put all the cymbals in one part (Perc 3)?

Any suggestions?

After this I moved all the notes into their instrument.

If you want to change the name of the staff from Crash Cymbals to percussion 3, here is one way to do it:

1. Change the name on the player card.

2. Go to page layout options (command+shift+L) > Staves and Systems and click "Show Player name instead of instrument names

And that should fix it.

Is there a way at the first measure to show both Percussion 3 and each name for each line?

Would I have to just add texts for each?

Great question. I think you’ll have to use text.
