I just noticed something weird in an Orchestral score I am working won. I have Percussion Players 1-4 and their noteheads are smaller than the rest of the orchestra. For the whole piece. Has anyone encountered a similar problem? Besides the scale settings, which are not even activated, I have no idea where I can start looking for settings, so I was wondering if anyone can help me.
As it is a client’s score, I am not sure if I can/should…?
Anyway, I just found out that right-clicking notehead and selecting “Reset to default notehead”, it resets everything back to normal. My only question is why only some instruments are smaller. (I just noticed harp and piano are smaller as well)
Where can I set noteheads specifically for a group? Engraving Options are global, isn’t it?
It is set as “Larger Noteheads” anyway. The thing is, when I right-click a notehead in percussion/harp (which are visually smaller) and select “reset to default notehead” it becomes just like the other “larger noteheads” as set in Engraving options.
Thanks, Derek, yes, I know that. But how come EVERY note is smaller? I obviously didn’t click on every note on percussion/harp and made it smaller. Can Dorico set different noteheads size for different instruments>
If the noteheads are smaller in the unpitched percussion instruments, perhaps it’s because you’ve used specific notehead overrides in the Edit Percussion Playing Techniques dialog?
Yes, the noteheads are overridden. Select everything in the percussion instruments (and any other affected instruments), right-click, and choose Noteheads > Reset to Default Notehead.
Could you very very briefly explain what “noteheads are overridden” means in order to avoid similar problems in the future? That is to say, how did we probably get to that point where notes became smaller?
It’s probably been suggested before, but some confusion might be eliminated by renaming the Notehead Menu items as Circled; Smaller; Large Circled; Larger etc. Then the Reset to Default would do the obvious thing.
