I’m working with Dorico since 18 months and I love it (30 years Finale user as professional). I’m working on Dorico Pro 6.2.
There is a thing that I can’t resolve, I hope I will be clear.
When working with percussion, in a concert band score for example, it happens frequently that players will have to play several instruments, and sometimes the percussion 2 staff for example is made for two players.
- Here is what I want : I’d like the percussions staves on the first page to have displayed Percussion 1 (with all the details or the instruments played below and in a smaller font size), same for percussion 2 and 3.
- I’d like on the other pages to have as staff name perc.1 perc.2 percu.3 and never the name of the instrument played.
- If a player is made of a percussion kit and another instrument (for example percussion kit and chimes), I don’t want “perc 2” to be lablled when it comes back to the percussion kit, I would prefer to have the name of the instrument (for example suspended cymbal or tambourine).
I think Dorico has a lot of automatic ways of working and that’s great for many tasks, but here, on the percussion staff names, I would like to be able to do what I want and avoid all the automatic tasks.
Is it possible ?
I tried many things :
- editing the player name but it is a one line edit, so even it you cheat and copy and paste some lines, you can’t make the instrument detail a smaller size, you will have the same size that Percussion 2 for example.
- I tried to change the name of the first instrument to Percussion 2 but I had mistakes all over the piece.
The first screenshot shows what I achieved in using the text tool (alt X) and grab the text in engrave mode below the Percussion name, but it causes large gaps between the staves and you have to manually fix all, and you have the name Percussion in the center of the staff, you can’t grab it up.
The second screenshot shows the technic while editing the player name (one line edit), so the detail of the instruments is the same size.
The third screenshot shows that in a page, instead of perc.3 the staff name becomes xyl.
