Performance Notes in Dorico Elements: Any Workarounds?

I’m aware that text frames are only available in Dorico Pro. Is there a good way to add a large section of text on the second page? I’ll only use preview to add a new page if I have to.

Hi @hamsandwichnow

Note: what comes below is an exercise in Dorico Elements capabilities…Of course all this is much more easy and elegantly obtainable in Dorico Pro, through customised Page templates, and maybe for you it is faster to add the text page editing the PDF… Also I just realised that you probably need the text before the music starts, sorry.
But nevertheless here two workarounds for other cases:

  1. I think in Elements (not having custom page Templates creation capabilities) you need to leave a little of the music (at least one staff) on the page, to be able to write the text as Staff attached text.
In Elements, you can write the text as Staff attached text (Shift+T) at the beginning of the page, create a Frame break where needed (from menu Edit), and in Engrave mode, move the remaining staff/staves to the bottom of the page to make place for the text (because at the top of frames, Dorico will not automatically create the spacing for the text, this is an expected behaviour…):

Dorico file example (Elements):
large text in elemnts.dorico (546.0 KB)

  1. In case you don’t want to have music on the text page, there is a little convoluted method using Zero Line staff with open meter, adding an extra bar where the text should appear, using frame breaks, and strategically manually hiding and showing the staves, you need also to hide the bracketed bar number for the Zero Line staff, and reestablish the other staves bar numbers after the text page.

Here the result and the Dorico file:

large text in elements-WITH ZERO LINE STAFF.dorico (577.7 KB)
