Performance Overload During Recording and Playback

How to Repeat Issue:

  1. Create new project
  2. Add audio tracks
  3. Arm audio tracks
  4. Press Record

Result performance (blue) meter peaks repeatedly, after 30 seconds cubase stops recording and the warning pops up “Error, too many tracks recording”.

  1. After several try’s, sometimes it will decide to work and recording with no problems, but then when you hit “stop” to stop recording, a related issue comes into play, the performance meter peaks again and takes 15-20 minutes to stop recording.

Files are directly recorded my external hard drive, could it be that my external hard drive is wearing out and can’t write files smoothly anymore? When I set cubase to write to my computers internal hard drive, it works without issues.
