Periods in abbreviated staff names

Some of the predefined abbreviated staff names (particularly those with two letters or less) have a period following them, while others (particularly those with three letters or more) does not. To me at least, this seems inconsistent.

Is there a way to add periods to all abbreviated names automatically?
