Hi Martin,
Did you mean “disable” the WinRT driver type ?
WinRT was enabled so I disabled it. Now projects seem to load without troubles.
Thank you !

Hi @michael_goldberg ,
This is interesting… The crash pointed to the old WDM MIDI Driver, not to the new WinRT MIDI driver.
Wow… I’ll check again. I’ll send you the results as soon as I can.
Hi
In order to investigate we need more information. Could you share with us a project that hangs on your computer? Ideally the project should be stripped down to the bare minimum to reproduce this issue. The project should be sent to me as a wetransfer link to me in PM.
Cheers,
Armand
Martin, I’m not in the mood for this procedure. I will wait for Cubase 14 or 15. Right now Cubase 12 works well for me.
I can, but it happens with every project I open, including a fresh new project. I’ll send a link shortly.
Most hangs i have seen on windows is down to either a bad plugin OR antivirus behaving like Rambo.
If on windows, Launch the taskbar and have it sitting to one side, click on CPU column so all processes with high usage shows at the top of the page. Now launch Cubase and check to see if your antivirus (windows or other) is eating cycles. If so add the following Cubase files to your antivirus exclusions list
Steinberg License Engine.exe
Steinberg Activation Manager.exe
Vstscanner.exe
VSTscannermaster.exe
Cubase.exe
SteinbergMediaServer.exe
Hope this improves your stability
All the best
Hi,
The Main thread is waiting in the Sonarworks SoundID Reference plugin. Multiple Sonarworks threads are running on the system.
Therefore it seems, the hang is in the Sonarworks SoundID Reference plugin. Please, get in contact with the plug-in vendor.
I started to get the same kind of problems in Cubase 12. I uninstalled everything and reinstalled Cubase, but the same kind of annoying crashes and freezes happened. I open up the exact same synths and plugins in Bitwig, Ableton, or FL Studio and it works. Then I downloaded a demo of Studio One. Now this will be my DAW from now on. So I ended up with uninstalling everything from Steinberg/Cubase…Groove Agent, Halion 7 and so on. All the money I have spent, I just have to consider gone. And yes, WaveLab and Spectralayers is also uninstalled. So what I’ve noticed is that it’s the eLicenser that often causes problems. And of course I have reinstalled that too. But guess what? In Studio One I don’t need an eLicenser. And for all my synths and third party plugins, the iLok License Manager works perfect. So good luck with the development and helping people, but for me as an amateur not having the newest super speed computer or energy to deal with problem solving, this was too much. Cubase is really good when it works. But the priority of functionality development and licensing model is not good in my eyes.
But you don’t need the eLicenser to run Cubase 12.
What kind of answer is that? Remove eLicenser and see if you can run Cubase. Open up the Task manager in Windows and you will see the eLisencer program running next to Cubase.exe.
Respectfully, it is completely understandable that Cubase has fallen out of favor with you. If it’s helpful, we’re not trying to convince you otherwise.
The topic here was to identify that this issue was not unique and to discuss possible solutions. Where you’ve added to that, it is appreciated. All else isn’t that productive.
Thanks.
Cubase 11 was the last version to use the eLicenser.
You still need the eLicenser Control Center. What you no longer need is the USB-eLicenser.
I understand that. And if I have had the energy, I would have continued to chase the dragon for a solution. I have been in your position before, when I didn’t understand why people complained. So get me right, I hope all the people here will find solutions to their problems and continue to share tips and trix.
Not to run Cubase 12 you don’t. As you can see in your own screenshot, there is no Cubase 12 license there. If you own Cubase 12 or 13, those licenses are managed by Steinberg Activation Manager.
Ohh, but that’s just a random screenshot I found online. I never got it to work without the eLicenser and I even had everything activated in the Activation Manager. Every time Cubase said there was no eLicenser to be found. And for every reinstallation the eLicenser Control Center was installed. I have been googling like a maniac for this. And I don’t want to get back in this mess again. So what I’ve also read is that for Halion 7 and Groove Agent 5, which are the upgraded products I bought, not the SE versions, I need the eLicenser. So even if you are right about that Cubase itself doesn’t need it. Still Cubase asked me for eLicenser since Halion 7 and Groove Agent is installed, both as a standalone and as a VST3. So do you have any solutions to that?
I believe you’re right that Halion and GA needed the eLicenser for a bit longer, but we weren’t talking about those. We were talking about Cubase 12, remember?
Here’s your snarky comment again in case you forgot.
Yes, but it’s impossible to do that because I also have Halion 7 and Groove Agent 5 integrated in Cubase. These plugins were a big part of why I wanted to use Cubase. So you are telling me that Steinberg’s own developed plugins should be removed for me to work in the DAW? I was talking all the time about Cubase 12 with products from Steinberg. Not third party plugins.
i have the same issue, i updated to 13, and it was fine for weeks, today, when i try to open the project I am working on, it freezed up, forced quit. and opened the second try. Now everytime i try to open the project, it will freeze. and quit and re-open.
