Why is Dorico refusing to condense the Trumpets in this last system? I want both Trumpets on one staff.
I have tried Manual Condensing at the beginning of the system with no luck, as well as introducing a forced System Break. And, I’ve tried both together. This image shows with neither applied.
Notice the system before, the Trumpets are condensing correctly.
If I delete the music in Tpt.II mm.5-8 (of that system) then it Condenses correctly and puts both Trumpets on one staff. However, once I add any music (either freshly engrave or copy/pasted from Tpt.I) it again forces it onto two staves.
I’ll try deleting them and see what happens, but none of them in this image have any condensing instructions for the Trumpets. And again, when I remove the music from mm.149-152 it condenses correctly.
You could create a testing project out of the original one. Remove all manual Condensing Changes.
Then go to the Layout Options > Players > Condensing and try with “Condense divisi and adjacent instruments”, or with the “Custom Condensing Groups”:
I wonder if pitch crossing is the reason the specific measures will not condense onto one staff. IIRC number of pitch crossings can be set as a parameter.
I did try adding the Trumpets to Custom Condensing. as well, those last bars had been changed back to 2/4, and still no effect.
Eventually, adding the same pitch to Tpt.2 did cause the Condensing to work correctly. At first, I was opposed to having both Trumpets but have changed my mind for musical reasons.
It was a nice idea, and implemented it, but it had no effect. Only either deleting all the music from those bars, or adding the music to Tpt.II corrected it.
