Rather new to Forums so I hope I’m doing this correctly. I am another Finale refugee attempting to wrap my head around the complexities of Dorico. My latest roadblock is pickup measure. Every time I do the shift-B , “4/4, -5” thing, I get the pickup measure correct but there’s “make up” bar that appears. I will never need that make up bar. I can’t seem to get rid of the make up bar. I do commercial and jazz writing. We never use the “make up” bar approach. Can anyone help me understand to make Dorico not enter a “make up” bar whenever making a pick up bar? For the time being, can someone show me how to get rid of the currently-occurring make up bar?
Thanks
Welcome!
When entering a pick-up bar in the time signatures popover, the number after the comma is multiples of the time signature’s beat unit. So “4/4,5” is a 4/4 time signature with 5 pick-up quarter notes. Totalling presumably another whole bar and a quarter!
Depending on where you’re starting from and where you want to get to, your popover entry might be different. Can you share some screenshots to clarify your situation?
Got it. Okay that makes sense and I greatly appreciate the speedy response. I put “5” because I thought the number after comma was according to resolution of the grid. I understand it now. Thanks and believe me, I’ll be back with more questions, ha.
