Pickup bar of 3 quavers in 4/4

How do I add this please, using the popover?

Thanks
Darren

Welcome!
The logic is this: a quaver is half a beat in 4/4, that is 0.5, so three quavers are 1.5 , so you would input

4/4, 1.5

Does this work?

No it doesn’t I get this weirdness

I thought @dazzjazz wanted 3 quavers , that is 3 eights - no?

The other problem pictured is independent from this.

Right, my bad.

I had to look up „quavers“ myself to make sure (being Austrian) :notes:

I guess you changed your first bar retroactively to a pickup. Nothing wrong with this, just delete the crippled next bar.

I’m not familiar either with the British terminology as Finale uses U.S. terms (being Swiss).

Notice the repeat barline in the screenshot is still four quarters from the start. This is because explicit barlines and most everything else do not move when you change the meter. You have to understand this.

It looks like what you wanted was to add 3 eighths before the first bar. To add time: select at the location you want to insert, Shift-B, 3e, Enter. You can do this before or after changing the meter, it makes no difference to the result.

I cannot figure this out!
This morning I’ve tried again starting with this:

Then I enter in the popover 4/4,1.5 only to get all the music shifted later.

I’ve just downloaded the latest update too! HELP!

Try this.
It is a 2-step operation.
Also, it assumes that the first bar has notes in it and that you want to add a pickup bar of 3 quavers (in 4/4 time).

  1. Select the time signature, press shift-M, type 4/4,1.5 then press Enter.
  2. While the time signature is still selected, press shift-B, type 3e then press Enter.

Thanks - I played around with deleting the time signature and reentering it through the popover. Seems to have fixed it now. Not sure why or if I could replicate it.
