I set my Preferences to “By default, Specify pitch: Before Duration” -
Yet when I create a new Project, go into Write and hit Return to activate entry in the first bar, Duration Before Pitch is activated in the far left panel.Isn’t that counter to the intended default behavior? I realize it’s easy enough to hit “K” to turn it off, but I sense that I missed something about this…
Looks like that preference setting applies when opening files. Close and reopen your project to make it work.
Actually, that’s why I posted… the setting was already set, has been set. This was a new file, and when I hit return to enter the first bar, I saw that the button was green…
Green? I see only either grey background, or blue highlight.

Okay. (I’m slightly colorblind, but not with blues!)
Anyway, I found when I set that pref and open a project, the button highlights right away. Maybe this is down to mixing up which mode that highlighting indicates.
Holy sheesh, yes, exactly. And I’ve been doing it that way for weeks, written 3 charts, and just chalked it up to “differentness,” actually appreciating the stuff you can do in Duration first… and so easy to switch. Man, I feel like an idiot. Sorry to trouble.
