Pitch / khz prob?

I got some wav files made at 16 bit and 44.100 khz. Cubase 4le loaded them in at 24 bit and 48.000 khz. This Made the pitch sound like chipmunks. I tryed two things. First I saved the mixdown at 16 /44.100. I played it back and was still to high pitch.

Then I tryed to go into Projects/Projects setup and change it there. I could change it to 16 bit, but it was stuck at 48.000 khz. No way or option to change this.

Any help appreciated. Thanks

Re import the wave files and when it asks to convert to project samplerate select yes.
