I already have Spectralayers but I’d love to update with a discount!
Well, about the vouchers - that’s a little bittersweet to me. An SL newcomer who owns Cubase 15 gets SL13 for around €150. I recently bought SL12 for around €300 and now have to pay around €100 for the SL13 update.
So I, a faithful customer, have to pay a total of €400 for SL13, while a newcomer pays €150. Is that fair?
I reckon the SL13 update should be free for all CB15 owners.
Cubase doesn’t come with Spectralayers Pro, so why would Steinberg give it to everyone for free?
The vouchers are a ‘special offer’ for new customers to move over, its not an ‘update/upgrade’ sale for the normal users. SL12 came out over a year ago, when you buy it doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things unless its like a week before the new one comes out..

I don’t think it should a free update to SL13 but maybe 40% off like Cubase updates?
Again, this is NOT one of the many ‘update/upgrade’ sales that also regularly happen. This is simply an offer for new users who might want to get in on SL Pro, Wavelab Pro, etc.
Nothing about this particular offer is any different than any other time Steinberg has done it (didn’t we all get similar offers last year as well?)
If you want to update cheaper, then you need to wait for the next update sale like always.
Just like when people want to get in the door with Cubase, they need to wait for the discount sale on full licenses.
We all get our turn, you just have to wait for the schedule to roll around.
Steinberg makes special offers for people who wait to upgrade or are new to the product.
If you’re a already a customer and want to have the latest version immediately, get ready to pay more.
The most extreme case is Nuendo. If you upgrade to the next version right after release, you get to pay 160€. If you skip a version, you pay 140€ and get two updates for one.
Upgrade from 14 to 15 right after the release of 15, you get a 20% discount.
Upgrade from 13 to 14 a year after the release of 14, you get a 40% discount and the upgrade to 15 for free.
So I guess either you like and use the products enough to pay (close to) the asking price, or you look somewhere else where loyalty is rewarded with steeper discounts.

I understand why Steinberg is doing this promotion but I still feel they could throw a bone to their loyal supporters!
Let’s hope Steinberg doesn’t decide to copy what IK Multimedia and Universal Audio do and have better deals for new users than existing ones. Sure, you might get new customers that way, but they won’t be staying for long once they realize what’s happening.
There will be a 40% sale on SL at some point. They do it every year for all their products.
