Placement of Retake Pedal

Concerning the Sustain Pedal and the placement of the Retake Pedal:

  1. I have added a Sustain Pedal to a bar of music.
  2. I wish to add a Retake Pedal to a crotchet
  3. Preceding the crotchet are a couple of grace notes.
  4. I added the Retake Pedal, but it lines up with the grace notes rather than the selected crotchet.

Is there a way to change this? Also see the attached video.

I think you need to nudge it in Engrave…

(EDIT: See @charles_piano post below for the simpler option)

Btw, if that mordent is on the beat, and not before, the first default position is right, isn’t it?

There’s an Engraving Option for that (but not a property, AFAIK):

Hi, I’m not brilliant at this stuff but I’m not bad at music theory …

Your grace notes are Appoggiatura. An appoggiatura commences on the beat of the note that it is attached to and takes it’s duration out of the note value that it is attached to. Therefore the retake is in the correct place.

An Acciaccatura on the other hand is played BEFORE the beat of the note that it is attached to stealing it’s time duration from the previous note.

Try changing your Appoggiatura to an Acciaccatura and see if you get the behaviour you’re looking for without fiddling with Dorico’s standard settings.
