Placing a playback technique while a note is sounding

I am trying to implement slide up/down supported by the XSample Contemporary Solo Strings library, switching the functions on and off appropriately. In their docs I see that if using Finale or Sibelius you can move the CC events relative to note events but I can’t yet see a way to do this in Dorico. Thanks.
(PS does anyone know of a Dorico expression map for this lib? Importing from the Cubase one not so good…).

Unfortunately, not at the moment, but I (and others!) have requested it already quite a good number of times…
Actually, re-reading your question, I’m not sure about CC events, but keyswitches at least can’t be activated during notes.

Cheers,
Benji

Welcome to the forum, @planet23.

If you have a playing technique event in the music at a position other than the start of a note, Dorico will still play this back as you want. So you would have a playing technique that produces the playback technique for which you have defined a switch in your expression map, and provided that switch is set to produce the MIDI CC change you’re looking for, it should all work.

To position the playing technique in the middle of a sounding note, use the caret to move to the rhythmic position where you want the playing technique to appear, then create it there.

Thanks for the quick replies. I now understand how I can place playing techniques in the score at any rhythmic position.

But it appears they are not actioned. I see the Expression Maps dialogue only allows for actions at the start or end of notes so does this need a third option ‘immediate’?

Yes, I don’t think you can have Sustain for 3 beats and then switch to a slide patch for the fourth beat of the same note.

If the slide can be controlled by CCs, then you can draw it into the Key Editor.
