I like to work with "return to start on stop,"but if I’m listening and like where I am, I remember a long while ago I think it’s Protools you hit the down arrow before you hit stop and that marks the return to start point so it doesn’t keep going right back to where you first started from. I’ve had a look, but I can’t find anything. Is there something in Cubase that can do this ?
Thanks, yeah that’s what I use, I don’t wanna change it. I just wondered if there’s a way to Mark where the Playhead currently is (while still playing) so that when you hit stop it returns to that point.
If you want to return where the cursor was when you start playing it’s “return to Start Position on Stop” but if you want to start from the point you stop just choose the first option. Mind that also pressing 0 the cursor will start from the point you started.
Have a look in key commands and macros:
choose action and give a key command
I use both DAWs regularly and I wasn’t aware that PT had that option until trying it just now. Interesting! However I don’t think this exists in Cubase natively after digging around. However I am able to slightly recreate it using a macro which you could assign to a hotkey:
And then under your transport playback settings you would need to enable start from cycle start:
I tested that if you hit the macro hot key while playing, it basically sets your cycle start position from wherever the playhead is at the moment you press the hotkey. And then if you stop and start again, it will now start from there. Setting both left & right locators together is an interesting quirk that seems to prevent it from actually looping. Shrugs, but it seems to work!
However the one caveat here is you would have to remember to not be in cycle mode before hitting the hot key, and also remember to disable it afterwards too. For me the potential playback quirks that might create probably wouldn’t be worth it.
There’s another way: set a marker with an hotkey, but then you will have it permanent, least till you erase it.
Well that depends on what you up to.
