Play Head following Draw Tool - How to Stop It!

I’m brand new to Cubase (but not to DAW’s generally) so please excuse the flawed jargon.

I’ve got a weird issue with the play head seemingly attached to the draw tool, as I’m moving it in the controller window, below the edit window (but not IN the edit widow).

Can someone advise me as to what’s happening and how to stop it please?

See video for clearer explanation. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi and welcome to the forum!
In this case, the vertical line is not the play head but the “cross-hair cursor” highlighting the current position.
You can disable it or change its appearance in the program settings:

That’s very helpful thank you. I’ve changed it so now it only shows the velocity amount (I think).

I am a bit confused as to why the cross hair cursor didn’t look like a typical cross-hair, and more like the play head (twin vertical lines), though?

I don’t know why it’s designed this way by default. I’m so used to it that I haven’t really thought about this. It’s just a preferred design choice of the developers, I guess. Fortunately, you can tweak the appearance a bit. If you’d like to get a real cross-hair, enable the horizontal line in the preferences. It’s also possible to disable the outline to get plain thin lines.
Personally, I prefer the outlines because they make it easier for my weak eyes to spot the position.
