Play own sound samples

Is there any way to put your own .wav and Dorico play it? I’ve tried using Groove Agent but I don’t know how to add new custom sounds. Maybe is there an external vst that I can do this?

Thanks!

HALion e.g. can do that. HALion is the big brother of HALion Sonic and allows you to sample and create your own sound libraries.

You can do this using ARIA Player, if you have it, or the Sforzando VST from Plogue.

You’ll need to create an SFZ instrument definition file, which describes which MIDI notes trigger the sample, and other details, like whether Velocity or CC1 affects the dynamic.

Yes, there are ways to ‘assign samples to GA pads’.

Start with an empty kit in Groove Agent SE.

Drag a sample onto one of the pads. If you want samples from various kits in the Groove Agent libraries’ vstsound archives, use the browser tab of Groove Agent to browse/find and audition them.

You can also use your OS file system browser and drag samples to a pad from there.

In either case, you can drag them to an empty pad of any fresh user kit, or add them to empty pads of existing “Beat Agent” kits.

Acoustic Agent kits…you can’t modify the pads on those in the same way as Beat Agent kits, nor drag stuff into empty pads, as those kits are more ‘locked down’. You won’t find their individual samples listed in the browser tab like you can for the beat agent kits. If you want samples from those kits you’ll need to ‘resample’ them somehow.

Once you’ve built your kit you can save it in GA if you like.

Trigger the samples with notes on a stave.

For more info making user kits from your own samples I recommend reading the section of the GA SE Manual on “Beat Agent SE Sound Editing”.

Thanks so much!!! I had a problem with the replace sample, but the solution is to make it in a blank Groove Agent. Thanks!

In case you haven’t already figured it out…

You can clear individual instrument pads to start all over by right clicking a pad and going through the menu.

You also get menus by right clicking here in the EDIT tab:

Note the little buttons in top right corner that toggle modes, ABS, REL, SEL, and PAD. If you’re dealing with a pad that has multiple samples on it (layers), you’ll want to toggle the PAD/SEL button so it shows SEL in red to be able to remove/cut/paste individual samples assigned to the pad. If the thing is in PAD mode, the menu applies to the entire button in one go. If it is red and says SEL, you can first select an individual sample (bar across the top), right click it, and cut/paste/replace/remove just the one sample/layer.

Read the manual closely and practice with those buttons. They can be a bit confusing at first.
