I was trying to make divisi work so I could have a solo instrumentalist pop out from an ensemble. Worked great within the staff, but in the Play tab, the UI widgets kept losing my instrument assignments. I wrote it up over at vi-control, but the repro goes like this:
1 Take an ensemble player and write some music that splits it out to a solo instrument and then back again e.g. unis/solol,gli altri/unis.
2 Go to the play tab, click the independent voice playback.
3 Assign one voice to trumpet. switch to the other voice. switch back to the first voice - the assignment is gone.
Notably, this doesn’t seem to happen in galley view, but it does in the others.
Also, while I’m sharing bug reports, I removed all the notes and divisi and everything from the write tab, but the notes and split still exist in the play tab.
In Dorico, when you remove a staff that already contains notes, those notes remain!!
This can be a very useful feature - eg. in the notation of ornaments, where it becomes simple to write out exactly how they should sound, then ‘remove’ the staff so it doesn’t affect the layout of the engraved music.
I’ve also used it when trying to decide betewen different alternatives in composition. You can write any number of variants and swap them in/out (like having multiple ossias but without needing to see them all)
To remove the notes permanently, you need to recreate the divisi first. If you want to keep the notes, but not hear them, recreate the divisi and suppress their playback.
