Playback Control in Write View

I am having a difficult time wrapping my mind around playback control in Write View. It seems like the only option is to start from the beginning. Is there a way to select a point in the score and begin from that point? I can do this in Play View of course. I am probably overlooking something obvious. Is there a place to set these preferences?

Select a single note or rest and type P.

Thank you! I kept hitting the space bar.

Just to add to @Derrek,s post. If you select more than one note in a single instrument and press P, then only that instrument will play. Similarly if you make a selection across a number of instruments (or use ctrl-click to select notes in different instruments), then only the selected instruments will play.
