I’ve installed all the libraries and halion sonic 7 from the download assistant manager, but the playback is not working. I have dorico 6 and macbook air Mac OS 26.4.1. Can you help me? It seems halion doesn’t load the instruments.

You seem to have not installed any of the Steinberg supplied sound libraries; at least Dorico can’t find any.
What is the Status of the Steinberg Download Assistant? In the Dorico section, does it show all the sound libraries as installed (i.e. the button on the right says Install again)?
If that is the case, what does the Steinberg Library Manager (gets installed along with Dorico) say, does it list one or more installed sound libraries? If so, then please do following:
Open a Terminal window (do a Spotlight search for it) and into that window copy and paste the command
find /Library/Application\ Support/Steinberg/Content -ls > ~/Desktop/SMTGContents.txt
That shall create the file SMTGContents.txt on your Desktop. Please zip that up and post as an attachment to a reply here.

Please also take a look. You see that there are a lot of symbolic links from the default installation location to your Downloads folder. That means all sound libraries got installed in your Downloads folder, which is not good.
Now first please go to ~/Downloads/Steinberg/OSX and check if the real files are actually all there
Many users - like me - sometimes clean out the Downloads folder thinking stuff in there is not needed anymore, but in your case that would be fatal, because it would kill your sound library installation.
I didn’t cancel that folder. I understand, but what’s the solution?
This bug is extremely serious because I previously purchased Dorico 4 and have now paid for the upgrade. I recently got a new laptop, installed everything correctly, and the program still doesn’t work. I’m losing a huge amount of work time because of this, and on top of that, the official support team I’ve been communicating with by email has not been cooperative.
You are probably better working with @Ulf and the folks here than Steinberg Support, not that you can’t try both.

Was this issue resolved? When I load the Play tab and check to edit the sound libraries in Halion Sonic it does not show any instruments loaded, despite my Steinberg Library Manager identifying that I have sound libraries installed. I have attempted to reinstall the sound libraries and it has not fixed the issue. I am on a fresh install of Dorico 4 and MacOS 26.5.
I may be incorrect but I think Halion will not load instruments automatically unless you are using a playback template for the libraries you want to use. You should however be able to load instruments individually by clicking on their collection on the right side of the Halion window you show here that’s hidden by the Library Manager window.
Select the channel then double click on the instrument after the library’s selected.
Got it - going in and selecting instruments manually does work, and fixes the playback issue, however on my Windows PC the instruments do load some kind of preset that isn’t loading on my Mac. When I boot up a new project with the Big Band template on MacOS the instruments do not load as the screenshot above, whereas on Windows the Big Band template loads preset instruments. Both are clean installs where I didn’t change any default settings to my knowledge.
By default Dorico should load instruments for playback according to your settings in Preferences>Play>Playback Template…
What options you find there will depend on which version of Dorico you use. Dorico 6 introduced an “Auto” option, which will load the “best available”. On Dorico 5 you will be presented with different options depending on whether you are using SE, Elements or Pro.
But, once set, whenever you create a new score, Dorico should populate the playback with the best choice of available sounds.
If the Preference is set to “Silence”, Dorico will load no sounds.
But you can always populate a score for playback by using Play>Playback Template… choosing an option and applying it.
I’ve had several Zoom calls with Steinberg support, but now I’ve solved the problem by deleting all the software, including the folders. Basically, I cleaned everything up and reinstalled everything, and it worked. But the problem I had, which no one could explain, was that the program messed up by creating folders in the wrong places and temporary files.

We will sort your issue, no worries. But I need some more info and therefore it is best if you do following:
- On both, your Mac and Win PC, start up Dorico and create a new project from Big Band template
- Go to the Dorico menu and choose Help > Create Diagnostic Report. The corresponding zip files please send to u dot stoermer at steinberg dot de
- Additionally, please also create on your Mac a SMTGContents.txt file like I described in an earlier posting here. That text file also please send me.
