Playback Engines Discontinued

in some ways I do feel for the team – they have a lot of very differing user priorities as to what Dorico is to be used for and of course have to implement things one bit at a time given the limited resources available. Dorico 5 was regarded as largely playback focussed and there were some very good things there (I’m not entirely sure about the value of the stage and space templates as the more serious libraries tend to have their own staging built in to some extent or people use other solutions like MIR but even so, it was an imaginative idea). So it was no surprise that v.6 returned to notation orientated features including the rather ground-breaking proofing tool. Fair enough.

Having said that, there are a lot of people who currently feel the need to use a DAW who would love to be able to switch solely to Dorico if the playback side were a bit more developed. And it fair to say that from the point of view of Expression Maps, there have been only one or two real enhancements since v.3 (articulation delay and pitch bend gliss support being perhaps most significant).
