Playback Engines Discontinued

Oh certainly. A lot in mixing is a question of taste too.

There can be another phenomenon at work here though too - the way you are used to hearing something can make anything else sound “wrong”. When you are very used to a particular recording or mix, especially involving your own piece, it is easy to evaluate anything else as being worse. I find the same phenomenon happens when I’m used to the Dorico playback of my pieces and they get performed by a live ensemble. I’ve learned from experience that my initial reaction is always that it sounds really bad, but in fact to everybody else it sounds great (including my composition teachers who would know the piece almost as well as I would). So I’ve come to expect this of myself and temper my expectations and remind myself how different everything will sound.
