As I opened Dorico 5 today, I got a notification that playback wouldn’t be able to work due to something being wrong with–I think it was–HALion Sonic and Groove Agent? It told me to launch the Steinberg Download Assistant to fix the problem. When I did so, It says there’s an error, something to do with the internet connection, and I can “end program.” I tried to play a song with playback, and the cursor moves and you can hear a slight thump on each beat, but no music. Should I delete and re-download? Should I upgrade to Dorico 6?
If you haven’t used the Download Assistant recently, try downloading the latest version from Steinberg’s site and then running it again.
Hi @amymeyers , Derrek is right, please get the latest Steinberg Download Assistant from here. After installing it, launch it and go to the appropriate Dorico section and there download and install all listed packages, especially also the HALion Sonic/Groove Agent instrument and contents packages.
When you did that, does Dorico still complain about missing stuff during start up?
Thank you so much for the link. I did manage to get playback working on the new projects done today after re-installing the packages. Any projects I did, however, over the last two days since I got that notification and before I re-downloaded HALion, still do not have sound in the playback. I can only assume that the settings are wrong in those documents. But I don’t know how to fix them.
I did an experiment: I made a copy of a project that plays the playback. Then I pasted in a song not playing from yesterday over it. It plays in the pasted document. So somehow in pasting it, it does not copy over to the new document the playback problem, if that makes sense. Thank you for your help.
Have you tried re-applying the Playback Template via the Play menu?
Hi @amymeyers , yes, it all makes sense, and because of that please follow the advice as given by @Derrek, i.e. go to Play mode and then from the Dorico menu choose the item Play > Playback Template…
In the dialog that pops up, choose the Auto template, Apply and Close and you shall hear sound again.
Cheers
