Playback Issues on Selected Staff

Can’t find the answer to this anywhere.

If I click on a staff to select where to start playback, that instrument doesn’t sound when playing back. There’s a “blip” in the Note Performer mixer for about a beat, but then it goes away and there’s no sound from that instrument. All other instruments sound.

Earlier today certain instruments were 1/2 step sharp. Closing out and restarting worked, but then a different instrument would be sharp. Happened a few times, but hasn’t happened again recently.

Any ideas how to fix this? Wasn’t happening yesterday. Have closed out, restarted, etc. etc.

Thanks.

Could the instrument by accident set to muted?

Otherwise: could you attach a project file, even with a few bars, so users with access to Noteperformer can have a look

They’re not muted. If I click in another staff and then play, that other staff is now silent and the one that was silent now plays.

I see you’re using Dorico 5. I tried this file in both v5 and v6, and playback seemed to work as expected.

It’s so weird.

I created a new file and copy/pasted the parts into the new file.

Still when I click on the viola part, for example, then play, the viola part doesn’t sound. If I then click on a violin part, it doesn’t sound, but the viola does.

If I click on the dulcimer part, it sounds, but it is not a sustained note - just the initial attack.

The sax part plays back sometimes, but not every note. Some notes are randomly silent.

The piano seems to be working fine, it’s the strings and winds. It’s when I click on a note or rest in one of those staves that the selected saff/instrument doesn’t sound.

In the Note Performer mixer, the light on top the channel flashes to show there’s a note there, but in the meter next to the volume slider there’s no activity in the instrument that’s clicked.

Is there a setting somewhere? Note Performer gives me issues, this is just another. Love the sounds, but it’s so frustrating.

I just tried to change the output in the Device Setup menu from headphones to Macbook speakers, and got the spinning wheel of death. Had to force quit.

Unplugged my speakers from the headphone input on the Macbook, plugged them back in, opened the file again - had to re-save it - but it seems to be working as expected…for now.

What’s going on? What could this be?

Spoke too soon.

There seems to be an issue when I have Logic open at the same time. Suddenly, instruments were a 1/2 step sharp again. Logic only has audio tracks in it, no sound generated from there.

Quit both and re-opened Dorico, and it’s back in tune.

I don’t understand.

Different sample rates. 48/44.1

My Mac, Dorico and Logic are all set at 48k.

Hm. That’s the usual problem with a half-step diff.

Yeah…I don’t understand what’s happening. Thanks for replying!
