Hi guys,
I’m trying to control the playback length of a suspended cymbal in Noteperformer, but no matter what I do (I tried staccato dot, 16th note, different PB tecniques e.g choke) it is still too long.
Maybe another VST can do it ?
Any advice ?

I’m quite confident that Spitfire Percussion Joby Burgess and Toontrack’s Superior Drummer 3 orchestral percussions, two big libraries I created the percussion maps for, do have the “choke cymbal” samples to end a piatti note. However it’s not straightforward to trigger a sample at the end of a note in Dorico, you might need to write it and hide it
Thank’s Marc,
unfortunately I don’t have any of those libraries, and it’s maybe a bit overkill to buy them just for this feature.
Can you achieve a decent result with some hand-drawn MIDI controller data?
Nope. Tried cc 7 and 11. Makes no difference.
Do you by chance have a license for full Halion?
I ask because, if so, you could load in a sample of a sustained cymbal with the desired duration and trigger it. (Major kluge, I realize…)
I have NP, VSL, and BBCSO, and I can never get the suspended cymbal roll to end in the right place.
I understand the issue to be that it’s a question of the sound being triggered by Dorico, then “living its life to the fullest.”
I think a native solution will only arrive if/when mixer automation does.
If you switch to the suspended cymbal in Iconica Sketch, you can open the HALion Sonic VST, select the Percussion Map for the cymbal in the left column, show the Edit page, show the L1 page, and change the Release to a very small number to obtain a choked cymbal.
As ever, I doff my chapeau to you, @johnkprice!
Yes, I have the full Halion, and the “Piatti A due KS” has a normal and a choked cymbal.
Sounds great, but now my problem is that I can’t figure out, how to make a percussion map, so that it outputs C3 and the Keyswitches F#0 and C0…
