Playback looses adds an eight note to one part only

This is so wacky, I’m not sure I can explain it. And since I’ve never had it happen before, and the playback in this particular case is not important (not part of an “in the box” performance) I will just go on. But if it did matter, I would like to have a clue about what is happening here.

I am working on an arrangement that involves a vocal line and a tenor sax. It is in a medium swing (which may be significant). Since the sax part is riff-based, I did a fair amount of copy/paste after I got it right.

At some point, (it seems to only happen the second time through after a DS, after the sax plays a bar of triplet eights, when it comes back to the same riff it has been playing correctly (and did the first time through) the playback adds an eight note ONLY TO THE SAX PART (which also turns the swing around for that part). The notes are correct. And the graphic in “play” mode matches the notes, but the actual playback is wrong.

Any clue???

I did, exit and restart Dorico. Also in the Coda (where it was consistently wrong) actually re-entered the sax line from scratch - no change in behavior in either case.

I’m going to go ahead and print the parts for a rehearsal tomorrow, but ???

thanks, jc

We are going to have to at least that section of the Dorico file (not just an image) to do anything other than guess.

I found what was going on!

When I put the DS al Coda in, the placement was off by an eighth note, and it was actually the voice that was out of place, but I couldn’t hear it until the sax line started moving again (it had been playing long notes at the Sign).

When I put the drum part in and let it play through the solo section, when it got to the DS, the vocal was clearly out of whack, so I just completely removed two bars, including the “DS al Coda”, and put it all back together right, and all is well.

Thank you for taking a look, and sorry for the false alarm - it had me going in circles for an hour - there is a reason why it’s good to put the rhythm parts in first.

thanks
