Since updating to NP 5.1.2 I’ve come up against a few issues, but the most concerning for me at the moment is the behaviour of playback. Oftener than not (in Write mode at least), the spacebar won’t stop playback for longer than about half a second, after which playback resumes on its own. If it does stop, the most recent sound just hangs until random hittings of the spacebar stop it eventually. I seem to have more success with hitting the playback button on the toolbar, but even that misbehaves on occasion.
I’ve tried the solutions that come up as Google hits without success. The fault (wherever it lies) is slowing down my work considerably, so I’d be glad if someone could advise.
I always have the option, I suppose, of rolling back to NP4…

from reading your description I’m not sure if Dorico or NotePerformer is the problem here, that’s why I’m kindly calling also @Wallander to have a look here.
For further analysis I’d also like you to do following:
- Reproduce the case where Dorico won’t stop playing
- Choose from the menu Help > Create Diagnostic Report
- Attach the corresponding zip file to a reply here.

Does playback continue in Dorico, as in subsequent notes are being played?
Our software can be the culprit of hanging notes, but we can’t initiate playback. They could be separate issues though.
For troubleshooting, first detach any MIDI keyboards and see if it makes a difference. In case the keyboard is faulty.
Secondly, please quit all programs apart from Dorico. In case another program disturbs the keyboard input.
Can you produce a video showcasing the problem? E.g. by screen capture or filming the screen with your phone.
Many thanks for your responses. Just to recap: this behaviour coincided with my updating to NotePerformer 5.1.2 from - as I recall - the final iteration of v.4. I quickly learned to factor in a delay of about 1 - 2 seconds between a spacebar click and the stopping of playback (this after finding myself in a delay-loop in which my clicks and the start-stop of playback became entangled), but the matter I set out in my previous post seems to be something different.
I made these videos a few minutes ago - ‘spacebar 1’ was recorded with the MIDI keyboard connected, ‘spacebar 2’ after disconnection.
I’ll create and send a diagnostic report asap.

According to the logs the audio engine always gets sent a Start and then one corresponding Stop event, no doubles; so from that perspective Dorico is doing the correct things.

Hi Ulf - sorry, I didn’t see your message until I checked the Forums page (for some reason I don’t get email alerts for posts or messages, even though my settings tell me I should).
I’ve so far provided two files - the first is of one flow from the project (the whole file is too large to share) and the second is from the project with no vocal instruments; this is something I prepared experimentally because I thought these instruments might contribute to the problem. That’s just a layman’s impression, though; as there are about 30 vocal instruments in the project, deleting so many instruments of any kind would probably have an effect on playback, I should imagine.
