I wonder if someone could explain why/how this happens. You can see I have each note marked sfz with a descresendo but the second note falls under ‘Natural[Long]’. Also maybe unrelated the dynamic line looks strange too but the main problem is the wrong playback technique is assigned to that second note.
The playback technique choice selection mechanism is not always perfect. Could you move the mouse cursor to the text “Natural [Long]” in Key Editor, and then capture a screenshot for further investigation?
Here’s the screeenshot you asked for. I’ve also uploaded the project if that helps. I also wonder if it’s library or expression map specific because two other trumpet parts above this are marked the same way and the playback technique in the key editor is correct. But that almost doesn’t make sense either.

This is happening because at present the “sfz” will only act as a playing technique when it is the first dynamic in the group. Here you would need to split the dynamic group into two sfz+hairpin groups. I will make a note of this, though, in case we are able to improve it in future.
Oh, this is good to know!
I always thought that grouping dynamics would only incfluence how they are being rendered onto the page and how I can interact with the during editing.
I did not know that grouping had any influence on playback… Is this documented somewhere, are there other things where grouping dynamics changes how they are being interpreted?
Indeed, I think ideally it wouldn’t affect playback - in this particular case it’s a quirk of the implementation.
Perhaps this is because sfz is actually more an articulation than a dynamic.
That is interesting. Thank you for investigating this. I love Dorico and the support you all provide. It’s really first class.
