I have made a synth patch in Surge XT (VST3), and what I want is a playback template that will use an instance of that synth module for every instrument. So far I have only been able to add instances manually, and assign them to every part manually. I have added Surge as a manual entry in a fresh template, but it does nothing when applied, and I can’t add it as automatic. Is there no way to make a playback template do this for me?
Also, what is xound? All I can find on here is when it is missing. I have it, but I don’t know what it is. There is no mention of it whatsoever in the documentation.

If it isn’t possible to add Surge as Automatic then I don’t think so, unless someone has a hack to make it a factory template.
Is every instrument the Synthesizer instrument? And you want every instrument to have the same patch?
This should be quite simple:
- With an empty project, apply the silence playback template
- in setup, add 1 synth player
- in play, add the surge VST (load patch etc.)
- route the synth player to the surge VST
- click the cog wheel (endpoint setup) and make sure routing and maps (if applicable) are correct
- Save Endpoint Configuration
- Play → Playback Template
- add new (+), name it
- add manual (your saved endpoint)
- Save then Apply/Close
Now, every new synth you add to the project should automatically load a new surge VST associated with the endpoint you saved.
