After watching Anthony Hughes excellent video series on Playback Techniques I built a template using Kontakt 8 and Bernard Herrmann Toolkit for sketching ideas. With everything working nicely I constructed a new playback technique but when I went back and checked, many of my vst assignments had been duplicated and the correct ones were gone. ie. 4 High Strings, 5 Orchestra etc
In troubleshooting I believe that it may have been caused by using the “duplicate” button in new vst creation and then going into Kontakt to change it to the correct assignment. This was done to shortcut going through the entire Kontakt interface to get to an instrument that was close to a previously used instrument in the menu.
I fixed the incorrect vsts and all is working perfectly now but yeesh.
