But I have a score with many instruments, including an English Horn, that isn’t present in BBCSO Core.
So I created a new Playback Template, adding the Dorico “All VSTi” Playback Template to the bottom, to load all the instruments not present in BBCSO Core.
I can’t answer your question but this is the closest thread I could find related to my problem. I have a trumpet line where I have set the velocity to all be the same and have put no dynamics in the score yet all of a sudden it gets very quiet for no apparent (to me) reason. I want the volume to be consistent although I would like to eventually figure out how to use the humanize feature so it isn’t too mechanical…
@J_P_Zinn, you have MIDI CC1 data recorded in your trumpet part. Select a note in your trumpet part, then use Play > Automation > Delete All Automation For Instruments In Selection to clear that data.
Thanks, that fixed the trumpet part. But it raises other questions for me. How did I get that automation recorded and how did you debug it to know that was the issue? Why isn’t my guitar playing the notated chords?
Hello everyone, and thank you for joining this discussion.
I’m glad @J_P_Zinn found a solution to his problem.
However, the OP (that’s me) started this thread with another question.
I’m asking @dspreadbury if he has an answer for me too.
Thanks, in any case, to those who have joined and those who will join.
Let me briefly summarize the problem (or see the first post):
The Playback Template (BBCSO Core + Dorico “All VSTi”) should load the BBCSO Core Timpani, since they come before the Iconica Sketch (Halion) ones in playing order. But that doesn’t happen: it loads the Iconica Sketch ones, bypassing the BBCSO Core ones.
If I use the BBCSO Core-only Playback Template, the Timpani are those of BBCSO Core, so that’s fine.
Okay @dspreadbury, I agree.
But even if you don’t have BBCSO Core, why doesn’t Dorico respect the Instrument/Families selection as they’re arranged in a new Playback Template?
I’m missing something.
In the BBCSO Professional template provided through the Steinberg website there has been (at least earlier) a long-standing issue where the BBCSO Timpani doesn’t load: it has Violin 1 patch and one has to manually change it to the Timpani patch. This might be one possible reason inherited from that template still?
Hi @Danix78, you can try to set an instrument override for the BBCSO pitched percussion (selecting it in the “Immissioni” panel, and clicking on the + below “Eccezioni degli strumenti”, ad choosing Timpani there.
[Edit: or probably you should correct the Endpoint Configuration as @hannuala suggests]
Thanks @hannuala and @Christian_R, your suggestions have encouraged me to investigate the problem and find a solution.
The BBCSO Core Playback Template (downloaded from here: Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra Templates – Dorico ) maps BBCSO patches/Instruments to SOME Instruments/Dorico: even though Dorico has multiple types (variants) of the same Instrument, only one is associated with the BBCSO Core library (an unexpected discovery!).
So I had to change the “Default” Timpani Instrument to “No Key Signature” Timpani for it to load from BBCSO Core.
So, this time too, I changed the “Military Drum” instrument to “Snare Drum,” and the correct instrument patch I was looking for, “Marching Snare Drum,” was automatically loaded by the BBCSO Core + All VSTi Playback Template.
Yes, as you may have noticed, this association is missing from the association table, probably because the PDF is dated November 8, 2023.
If anyone knows of an updated Dorico Instrument/BBCSO Instrument patch correspondence table, I’d appreciate it!
I think I have a better understanding of how some things work. Thanks again everyone.
I was celebrating too soon! The initial problem remains unresolved.
Why is the “Default Timpani” Doric instrument recognized by the BBCSO Core Playback Template that loads the correct Timpani Instrument patch, but not by the BBCSO Core + All VSTi Playback Template? (first post)
