Playing techniques: text or glyph?

I’m adding custom playing techniques for guitar frets to barré, e.g. “C IV”. The editor will let me create these as either text or glyph. Since the technique is text, is there any advantage to creating it as a glyph? If you add it as text, does Dorico continue to need the font used to be installed?

The main difference is the default alignment: text-based playing techniques are left-aligned at the rhythmic position, while glyph-based ones are centre-aligned. Whether you use text- or glyph-based playing techniques, you must ensure that the font is installed on the system for them to appear correctly. Dorico does not embed fonts or subsets of fonts.

Besides… using a Playing Technique makes it reusable at will without any risk for typo.
