Was having a few problems and decided to delete my preferences.
On restarting Cubase, doesn’t matter what project I load, it plays the F one octave above middle C permanently. Only on one random track
I have a Macbook M1 and Caldigit box and Scarlet 2I2
I have swapped the audio interface for a Presonus one I have, still the same.
I completely bypassed the caldigit box by plugging the audio interface directly into my Mac , still exactly the same.
It makes no sense?
At the same time, while every other plugin works, including other Native Instruments, I’m getting no sound from either Komplete Kontrol or Kontakt 8 (both work perfectly stand alone)
I just opened one of the Cubase templates (Neo `Souls) and the piano plays the F one octave above middle C. I opened a Cubase Demo project, the same, this random constant note.
This is with all my Midi hardware turned off
Tried rebooting, I’m on the verge of factory resetting my Mac, but that will take days to get everything back.

You could try: On the instrument track that’s playing the mystery note, change the MIDI input one by one (it might currently be set to “All Midi Inputs”) and check if that isolates the MIDI port origin of the note.
Just a thought, but my MOTU M4 has worked flawlessly for years (Windows 10), then suddenly it kept doing strange things including disconnecting and reconnecting. New (recently released) drivers and firmware fixed it.

I have Native Instruments S88 mk3 and Maschine controllers and Arturia Key Lab mk2
It was doing it on every project I opened, the pic above is for U-HE Zebra and all my controllers were turned off.
It only happened after I deleted the preferences so I suspect I deleted something I shouldn’t, just find it very very weird.
Hopefully in the next few hours I can test again, NI Komplete 2026 CE took forever to install, now just got to install Steinberg software and get my Stream deck working
What do you mean it plays F? When you press a C key it plays F instead?
What do you mean middle C? Steinberg has theirs set at C3 (MIDI # 60) but other companies use C4 or C5. I think you have a transpose happening somewhere. It shouldn’t be the hardware or audio interface. There is a setting in Cubase somewhere I think. A MIDI modifier, transpose, or even in the chord pads, see if you have it transposed in the chord pad settings.
What I mean is, If I load my project, the F one octave above middle C, plays by it’s self, it’s as though I’m holding it down on a keyboard. So that would be F4.
And it does this the second I load a project even with all controllers unplugged.
But as I’ve reset my laptop and am re-installing everything, hopefully it won’t happen, I will let you all know
Re-installing the entire Mac from scratch is quite the extreme approach.
I probably would have started by re-installing just Cubase, since your test with disabling all MIDI input ports on the track playing the mystery note seemed to give some evidence, that the source of the issue was more likely Cubase internal than MIDI coming into Cubase.
But by reinstalling everything, at least you should have a squeaky clean system to start with. And that’s always a nice thing.
Of course it’s useless now to speculate, since it can’t be tested any longer, but to confirm that the source of the mystery MIDI note was internal, one could also have double checked via the incoming MIDI traffic indicator on the transport bar.
Hopefully the re-install of everything will make this issue go away forever, but if it reappears, I would recommend more systematic troubleshooting to get closer to the source of the issue, before any more re-installs. There are quite a few more avenues of troubleshooting that you hadn’t explored so far. And there are enough very experienced and knowledgeable users on this thread, who can add a lot of value where needed/desired. And for something this unique, human brainpower and experience still has a good chance to outcompete the current state of AI.
