Hey, basically what the title says. I edit my recorded dialogue for YouTube in Nuendo, using the basics (Detect Silence, Cut & Fade, EQ, Comp), roundrip it to DVR for timing, and back to Nuendo for Mixing, Sound Design, finalization, etc.
I’m looking into the Project Logical Editor and its functions, and I realize it could be a big workflow improvement for me. So, just wondering if there’s any dialogue/voiceover people that use the PLE in their workflow that can share some examples of how to fit this into my current process. Thanks!
For reference, it’s:
Record in Nuendo > Basic Edits, Detect Silence to remove those parts > Basic EQ and Compression > Export stem to DVR > Line up audio with footage > Export video and MXF to Nuendo > More advanced edits and cleanup, sound design, mix, and back
You may have to be a bit more detailed in describing what you do. For me it makes sense to pause every now and then when working if I realize that I’m doing something over and over again, or if there’s something that requires several steps and a lot of key commands.
Sure- basically, I lay out about an hour or so worth of my recording. I use Detect Silence to basically make 80% of my cuts for me and add 1ms of fade.
Then, I listen through at about 2X speed on Shuffle Mode, deleting any alt takes that I don’t need and quickly using my breath/sibilance macro to tame breaths. Otherwise, I just range and delete.
Next, I’ll go to the channel strip, add a pre-filter (highpass) of about 80hz, and the stock Compressor or Tube for basic smoothing out.
Then, I glue parts of the track together that were split apart from Detect Silence, add a spacer of about 1 second between lines, and export as WAV
