Please! Give us a Character Delay

There are so many things in Halion that I like. But I’m consistently annoyed that we don’t have a built-in delay with some “vibe”.

I use BBD-style delays on lots of sounds, and I would like to be able to build those finished sounds in Halion rather than relying on another plugin on the output. Even if we don’t get a fully modeled BBD, I think a delay time that can be modulated (even if only by an internal LFO) is a must-have. With some built-in drive would be even better.

Sure, that’d be nice. But it very much depends on the quality of an emulation of a vintage bucket brigade delay. And that requires a lot of resources. Unless you are fine with a mediocre wanna be emulation.

On another note: acronyms are fine once they have been properly introduced. I highly doubt that everyone here is familiar with the concept of bucket brigade delays, let alone its acronym BBD.

Respectfully, there are multiple commercial products that are directly marketed as BBD (eg, Arturia BBD, PSP BBD, uhe Color Copy) and many others that prominently feature the style either in their GUI or throughout their documentation (Echoboy, Valhalla Delay, Replika). Not to mention decades of guitar pedals (Memory Man, etc) and rackmount units. It’s not an obscure thing.

The software implementations I mentioned are not CPU killers. I can run many instances of them without issue on my machine. The part that would be most difficult to model well would probably be the companding/saturation. I’m not a dev, so I can’t offer much more perspective on the difficulty of it, but these other developers have already done it in products that have been out for years to much acclaim.

Really, I think the most important part of this is getting some kind of modulation in the feedback path. As I said, I don’t really need a full BBD - though that would be great. I just want a delay that is a little less boring.
